Problem Sheets Problem Sheet 1 To be discussed in the Tutorials, Thursday, May, 2nd, 2019. |
General Announcements The first part of this course is taught by Barbara Ercolano and the second part by Jochen Weller. Exam Date: Thursday, July, 25th, 2019, 14:00-16:00. Please Register to the course with LSF here (by pressing "belegen"). Grading: There will be a mixed system. First there will be an exam at the end of the term. Second there will be a bonus system from the tutorials. From the bonus you can achieve up to 15% in the tutorials. The Bonus system will work the following way: There will be 10 problem sheets. Before the tutorial starts each participant has to state which problem have been done and can be calculated on the board. You will then be given the points for these exercises. The problems will then be presented by a student selected by the tutors. If it turns out the problem was not done properly, there will be no points or only part of the points assigned. If a total points of 8 problem sheets is reached you will get a 15% Bonus. This is then scaled down linearly to 0 points. This means in order to get the full bonus you have to do only 8 problem sheets completely, or more partly. The exam questions in the end will be taken from the problem sheets. This could be full problems or parts of them and slightly modified. If you reach 55% (Bonus+Exam) you have passed the course with a 4.0. If you reach 95% (Bonus+Exam) you get a 1.0 (or "sehr gut" in German). This also means in principle you can achieve a 1.0 by just writing a very good exam. But you are strongly advised against following this strategy. |
